On July 29, 2022, the International Association of Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) and Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA) jointly held a Responsible Care and Open-to-Public Day Event at the Nangang Industrial Zone Exhibition Center. Ma Jianjun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of TEDA, Fernando Vallina, AICM Vice Chair, Chairman of ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Li Lei, AICM Vice Chair, SABIC Vice President and Regional Head, North Asia, and Luan Bingmei, Deputy Secretary General of Responsible Care Working Committee of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) attended and delivered speeches. Xiao Li, Chair of AICM Responsible Care Committee, moderated the event, and Ms. Beryl Ma, Executive Director of AICM also participated in the event.
Ma Jianjun pointed out that as the only place for the high-quality development of the petrochemical industry in Tianjin in the future, it is of great significance to hold this event in Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone. Since its construction in 2009, Nangang has been dedicated to high-level planning, high-standard access, safe construction, green and low-carbon development, maintaining the bottom line of green and safe development, and has been committed to the construction of a sustainable industrial chain. Since the kick-off implementation on May 16, 2011, TEDA has taken Responsible Care as an important development strategy and has deeply practiced the Responsible Care® concept to achieve "zero emissions, zero accidents, zero casualties, and zero property losses”. The outcomes have been achieved in the areas of energy utilization, environmental protection, safety management, smart park construction. As one of the chemical industry parks in China, Nangang Industrial Zone is willing to contribute to the green, safe, sustainable and high-quality development. Ma Jianjun also extended sincere invitations to multinational companies and well-known chemical companies, hoping to have the opportunity to cooperate in the future.
Fernando Vallina, AICM Vice Chair said: "Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone is the first chemical park in China to implement Responsible Care® and has witnessed the vigorous development of Responsible Care® in China. AICM will join hands with more chemical parks in China to promote the concept of Responsible Care®, so that more and more chemical companies agree with the idea of Responsible Care® and voluntarily join us to practice Responsible Care®." He also pointed out that Responsible Care® and Open-to-Public Day are closely integrated and complement each other and AICM will keep working with chemical parks to promote Responsible Care®.
Li Lei, AICM Vice Chair introduced the origin and core principles of Responsible Care®, emphasized the global initiative for the continuous improvement of Responsible Care®, and shared a series of efforts and achievements made by AICM in promoting Responsible Care®. He pointed out that the Responsible Care® and Open-to-Public Day held in Zhenjiang chemical park last year and this year's in Nangang Park strongly proved the significance of signing the Responsible Care® Global Charter and laid a good foundation for the follow-up promotion.
Luan Bingmei, Deputy Secretary-General of Responsible Care® Working Committee of CPCIF, reviewed a series of effective measures taken to implement Responsible Care® in cooperation with AICM in the past 20 years, and pointed out that Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone held one of the earliest responsible care activities in China. By organizing this event, it is of great significance to deepening and implementing Responsible Care® in dissemination of the concept, public awareness, code implementation, performance evaluation and other aspects.
Ms. Susan Jiang, Chair of AICM Public Relations and Communication Committee (PRCC), shared the efforts in implementing and promoting the Responsible Care® using the “Open-to-Public” Day. As a transparent and effective communication platform created by AICM, AICM’s has been persistently building a bridge of communication between the chemical industry and stakeholders for more than ten years. At the same time, Ms. Jiang also announced the theme of the 2022 - "Chemical Innovation Drives Sustainability ".
In the following session, Ma Jianjun, Fernando, Li Lei, Luan Bingmei, AICM representatives and AICM member representatives officially kicked off the 2022 AICM “Open-to-Public” Day annual campaign online and offline.
Afterwards, representatives of AICM member companies Cabot, PPG and Nouryon shared their experiences and cases in Responsible Care®. Wang Xuebin, Environment and Sustainable Development Manager of Cabot China, shared how to implement Responsible Care® to ensure the production and operation of enterprises during the epidemic in Shanghai. Shi Jie, Safety, Health and Environmental Protection Manager of PPG Tianjin, shared their experiences from the perspective of enterprise innovation, sustainable development, internal management and “Open-to-Public” community project and other aspects to implement Responsible Care®; Dr. Gary Gao, Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Protection of Nouryon Asia Pacific Region, presented how the company implements the Responsible Care® principle through the safety management system and management elements, and shared related management practices.
At Last, Jia Jianmin, Director of Nangang Industrial Zone Emergency Management Bureau of TEDA announced the release of the 2021 Nangang Industrial Zone Responsible Care Annual Report.
More than 160 representatives, experts and students attended the event online and offline, including relevant departments of TEDA, AICM and its member companies, CPCIF, International Federation of Chemical Associations (ICCA) Responsible Care China Commissioner and other relevant association representatives, member units of the Responsible Care Work Leading Group of Nangang Industrial Zone, enterprises in the region, and multinational companies, colleges and other institutions.
