Responsible Care® Commitment
In 2008, AICM hosted the signing ceremony of the "Beijing Declaration on Responsible Care®" in China, marking the first time that a company in China has publicly committed to the global initiative. In the presence of many domestic and foreign media, AICM member companies jointly signed the "Responsible Care® " Beijing Declaration, pledging to work together to share the social responsibility of the chemical industry, and to establish dialogue and partnership with stakeholders such as communities, the public, government and media in an open, honest and transparent manner.
Then in the following 2014, 2018 and 2020, with the reaffirmations of the "Beijing Declaration on Responsible Care®" and the signing of the "Global Charter for Responsible Care®", AICM member companies beefed up their commitments to Responsible Care® and contributing to sustainability through improved performance, expanding economic opportunities and developing innovative technologies and other solutions to societal challenges.
RC journey within Chemical Park
We work together with Chemical Park to keep connected with local enterprises and foster Responsible Care® culture locally.
AICM launched RC journey program and jointly organized a series of safety salons with local chemical park since 2019. The safety salon aims to improve the safety management of chemicals by sharing the best practices and introducing good management methodology addressing to the local companies' weakness and difficulties encountered during operations. In summary, such activities received enthusiastic welcome and consistent recognition from local.
Open-to-Public Day (OTP)
AICM introduced the OTP campaign of the chemical industry in China for the first time in 2008. In the past 15 years, AICM and its members vigorously advocate and continue to hold a series of OTP events each year, aiming to establish a good image and reputation in the chemical industry.
As signature program and strong pillar supporting AICM's Responsible Care® practice, OTP has also been a communications platform for us to promote the concept of sustainable chemical industry and provides a transparent and open mutual channel between industry and relative stakeholders.
The importance of OTP has been widely recognized by the chemical companies and stakeholders throughout the world. This signature event helped the local governments, the associations, and other stakeholders to better understand the positive role that the Chemistry is playing in support of the country's sustainable growth.
Responsible Care® Walks into Campus
Safety education is probably the most important of all because the future of China. We walk into the campus to reach out to the young people to focus campus safety.
We entered the classroom and carried out the Responsible Care® E-learning course with East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), propagating the concept of "Responsible Care®" to students, introducing the safety management system and operation mode, so as to build their EHS skills and awareness. The synchronized recordings are also available online as public educational resources for the public to access.
Similarly, we go into university laboratory. Signed a MOU with Fudan University to work together to strengthen exchanges and collaboration between universities and industry, improve laboratory safety and promote Responsible Care® on campus.
AICM International Exchange and Cooperation
AICM maintains close communication and cooperation with multiple international associations, including ICCA, ACC, Cefic, JCIA, etc. AICM has built a bridge for domestic and international communication, created a platform for government and enterprise exchange, and promoted the scientific and sustainable development of domestic and international chemical industry regulations.
Introduce of International Good Practices
The Safety Quality Assessment System (SQAS), initiated by the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic), is the best practice for Responsible care® in the supply chain.
In 2007, with the rapid development of China's chemical industry, more and more domestic and foreign chemical companies paid more attention to the safety of chemical transportation in China. However, there still remains plenty of safety risks in China's hazardous chemical transportation market. In order to know the safety capacity of dangerous goods transportation in China's logistics enterprises, AICM introduced SQAS into China and established China's Road Safety Quality Assessment System (RSQAS), which helps to standardize transport enterprises systematically. On the other hand, it also provided a reference for chemical production enterprises to select appropriate logistics suppliers.
In 2019, to better respond China's local transport-related requirements, AICM optimized and upgraded RSQAS, which is currently implemented as an evaluation tool of Distribution Code under Responsible Care®.
AICM Responsible Care® Award
Since 2013, AICM organizes Responsible Care® Award every two years to recognize member companies that have made outstanding achievements in practicing Responsible Care® and promoting sustainble development of the chemcial industry, but also show the contribution of the chemical industry to achieving a harmonious society and green development. More importantly, it is to make the public understand and recognize with the concept of "chemistry shapes the future" so as to establish a postive image.
Responsible Care® Promotion Conference
Since 2005, AICM co-organizes with CPCIF to hold Responsible Care® Conferece every two years to promote the implementation of responsible care® in China, and provide a good platform for domestic and foreign chemical enterprises, organizations and schools to conduct academic exchanges and practice sharing, as well as to exchange the international best practices.
