AICM successfully convened the Responsible Care® Awards & Open-to-Public Day Kick-off Ceremony in Xi'an on June 18, 2025. This grand event aimed to recognize member companies for their outstanding achievements in implementing Responsible Care® and advancing sustainable development within the chemical industry. It also officially marked the commencement of the Open-to-Public (OTP) Day annual campaign, fostering public understanding and trust in the chemical sector.
In her opening address, Ms. Tina Dai, Managing Director of AICM, emphasized: " AICM will continue to collaborate with member companies, steadfastly promoting the principles of Responsible Care® to contribute to global sustainable development goals."
Mr. Li Bin, Vice Chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) attended the ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. He highly commended the over two decades of close cooperation between AICM and the Federation in jointly advancing Responsible Care® and sustainable development within China's chemical industry, injecting strong momentum into the sector's progress.
Since establishing the Responsible Care® Awards in 2013, AICM has set an industry benchmark. This year, AICM further optimized the award process and adjusted award names. The former "Responsible Care® Project Award" was officially upgraded to the "Responsible Care® and Sustainable Development Initiatives Award." This change aims to more comprehensively recognize member companies for their significant progress and pioneering projects in key sustainable development areas such as circular economy, product safety, materials innovation, green factory construction, carbon reduction, environmental protection, and social contribution.
Mr. Jeff Kovacs, Chairman of the Responsible Care® Leadership Group of International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), though unable to attend in person, extended his warm congratulations to all award-winning companies via video message. He affirmed the "leadership, innovation, and commitment to safety" demonstrated by the recipients and praised AICM for "embedding Responsible Care® within China's chemical industry through practice, with an influence that transcends borders."
Mr. Kevin Li, Chair of the AICM Responsible Care® Committee, presided over the exciting awards ceremony. Representatives of the winning companies, in their acceptance speeches, expressed their firm commitment to continuously practicing Responsible Care® and leading sustainable development. They also shared best practices and valuable experiences in safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, innovation, and social responsibility.
Ms. Rita Dai, Deputy Chair of Public Relations and Communication Committee of AICM, presided over the opening segment of the 2025 OTP campaign. The theme of this year’s OTP campaign is "Chemistry Shapes the Future." It is hoped that through the diverse activities organized by member enterprises in 2025, public awareness of the chemical industry will be enhanced, Responsible Care practices will be promoted, and sustainable development within the industry will be advanced.
Justin Wang, AICM Board Director, concluded: "Responsible Care® is our industry's soul – the cultural DNA balancing economic and social value. This year's award renaming reflects how sustainability and Responsible Care® intertwine, requiring us to advance environmental protection, social progress, and resource efficiency alongside growth."
The successful hosting of the event not only showcased the determination and achievements of leading international chemical companies in China in fulfilling their Responsible Care® commitments and advancing sustainable development but also established a vital bridge for fostering positive interaction between the chemical industry and the public. AICM will continue to work together with its member companies, building on the foundation of Responsible Care®, driven by innovation, to collectively "Chemistry Shapes the Future”, contributing to China's green transformation and global sustainable development goals.
