Responsible Care® Global Charter Signing Ceremony

Abstract:Nearly 30 member companies participated in this signing ceremony.

Launched in 2005, the Responsible Care® Global Charter is an important document that reaffirms the chemical industry's commitment to continuous improvement in environmental, health and safety performance. It covers not only manufacturing, but also other activities along the value chain related to the safe use and processing of our products, and pays attention to important new challenges facing the chemical industry and the global community, including growing public concern about sustainable development, public health issues related to the use of chemical products, and the need for greater transparency in the industry. This has become increasingly important in today's globalized business environment.

In 2015, the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) released an updated version of its Responsible Care® Global Charter, which includes more stringent requirements and measures for process safety and facility safeguards to promote sustainability, expand economic opportunities and improve resource utilization, as well as an expanded commitment to developing solutions to societal challenges. By implementing the Charter's guidelines, companies can increase the safety of their manufacturing processes, minimize their environmental impact and improve the overall quality of their products and services. In turn, this can lead to cost savings, increased productivity and improved brand reputation. By demonstrating a commitment to responsible business practices, companies can build stronger relationships with customers, suppliers, investors and the public. This can improve their competitiveness and ensure long-term success in the marketplace.

By the end of 2023, more than 580 chemical manufacturing companies around the world have signed the Global Charter. As one of the pioneers and leaders in Responsible Care® in China and a Permanent Observer of ICCA, AICM is the first organization to initiate local signing in China. Beginning with the release of the AICM Beijing Declaration in 2008, the commitment has been continually reaffirmed in 2014, 2018 and 2020 to emphasize the importance of Responsible Care® and to establish a dialogue with stakeholders such as the community, the public, the government and the media in an open, honest and transparent manner.

AICM Chairman Li Lei said, "Signing the Responsible Care® Global Charter is important to help companies improve operational efficiency and reduce risk, as well as build trust and partnerships with stakeholders. It demonstrates the chemical companies' emphasis on sustainable development and commitment to corporate social responsibility, as well as their solid promise to China in achieving dual carbon goal. We are proud of the progress we have made in promoting Responsible Care® and looking forward to continued growth in the number of signatories. Together, we can work to build a safer and more sustainable chemical industry."
