AICM successfully held regulatory workshop on environmental management of chemical substances on September 8 in Beijing, with strong support from the European Chemical Industry Council. Mr.DU, director of the Division of Chemicals, Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals, MEE, and experts from SCC attended the workshop and had technical exchanges with the participants from AICM and CEFIC on the "Registration Guidance for the Environmental Management of New Chemical Substances" . More than 20 representatives from AICM and CEFIC attended the conference, including member representatives from  BASF, Clariant,Covestro,ExxonMobil, Huntsman, as well as Lubrizol and Merck. 

Ms. Beryl MA, AICM Executive Director chaired the workshop. AICM Board Directors, Mr. Fernando Vallina (Lead Country Manager – China) and Sylvie Lemoine, Executive Director of Product Stewardship of CEFIC delivered welcome remarks. Mr. Fernando Vallina expressed welcome to officials and experts from MEE, and he expressed gratitude to MEE on openness to comments regarding "Registration Measures for the Environmental Management of New Chemical Substances" where some AICM comments were adopted. Meanwhile, he also hopes that major concerns regarding new chemical management could be further raised and communicated through AICM and CEFIC platform.

In the workshop, Director DU and Ms. Wang Lei gave a detailed introduction to the "Registration Guidance for Environmental Management of New Chemical Substances". Mel Biring, Deputy Director of Global Regulatory Affairs of CEFIC also provided their perspective and feedback on the guidance documents. Ms. Karin XU, Chair of the AICM IPAC, made a wrap-up. She said that AICM will continue to build a communication platform to make contributions to the regulations on chemical environmental management.

This workshop further deepened the cooperation between AICM and the CEFIC where two parties signed a memorandum of understanding in 2019 to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and further supporting science and risk-based management policy on chemicals. 

Later on, upon request from MEE, AICM experts continued technical discussion with Mr.DU and MEE experts. Experts from BASF, Covestro, Dow, ExxonMobil, Lubrizol, and Nouryon delivered thematic presentations on Guidance related topics.
